ALBUM REVIEW: "Born To Die" - Lana del Rey

When I first heard her on Gossip Girl with “Video Games”, I already loved her. Then I saw her music video and was completely fallen. Suddenly, Lana seemed to be all over the place, months after I had heard “Video Games” and the video to “Born To Die” came out, which I immediately adored as well.

Finally, the New Yorker’s first album is out and I have to admit, I think it’s brilliant!! What a very consistent style she has, very harmonious, atmospheric, very unique and very much going with the spirit of our time. For me, Lana is the next big thing.

But of course, apart from being pretty, she can also sing. And make good music. We all know “Video Games”, “Born To Die” and “Blue Jeans”, but new songs like “Off To The Races”, “National Anthem”, “Dark Paradise” and “Without You” are by no means inferior. In addition to that the album has a very nice length with loads of songs, there isn't a single bad one.

If you want to criticize something, you could throw in that Lana could have been more creative, innovative and revolutionary with her first album. However, she made a good, if not even superb, pop album with a ton of great, melodious songs. I guess she’s gonna be around for the while, this pretty lady.

  3. I don't think she's gonna last. Having said this, when I first discovered her (early January) I was intrigued. I even bought the album. I was intrigued by the melodic cry-baby whisper to the beat. The 'gangster' vibes. Her voice might be as sweet as cinnamon indeed, but the whole album sounds like one long song. No variations. And let's face it, it's her producers that really deserve all the praise :)
